I am knot . . . a. poster  in pieces of POWER

a.vase brings together texts and drawings that respond to museum restoration methods as strategies for creating and performing poetry.

"Fragments of a vessel which are to be glued together must match one another in the smallest details, although they need not be like one another. In the same way a translation, instead of resembling the meaning  of the original , must lovingly and in detail incorporate the original's mode of signification thus making both the original and the translation recognizable as fragments of a greater language, just as a fragments are part of a vessel."

                                                                                                 Walter Benjamin

Silent Diagrams

" Whatever they are, Alison Gibb’s suite of 19 poems overlaid by 19 diagrammatic pencil drawings seem anything but silent. […]And none of them are really silent. No, much more cagey than that."

                                                                                                                 Hix Eros

Silent Diagrams is a series of pencil drawings over a repreated poem. They document a process of visualizing poetic activity to create diagrams that illustrates and generate spaces for live performance. These diagrams were originated during the development process of Thus in the crossing, a poetic dance performance in collaboration with choreographer Elaine Thomas

Pomegrantes in the Oak

Sound collage poem with discovered and manipulated text by Alison Gibb and text and sound treatments by Tom Jenks.

The object’s primary text is Virginia Andrews’ 1979 novel Flowers in the Attic, from which Gibb, using instinctive selection and placement, has created a second text. A secondary text was then replicated sonically using spoken recordings by Gibb of the relevant sections of the original novel, with selected words and phrases isolated and spliced in order, preserving uneven and disjunctive patterns of tone and stress. This sonic collage was then fed through speech to text software to create a third, shadow text, which was recorded and added as a layer to the first track. Finally, a selection of samples, suggested by the hybrid text, were added, with some distortion.

Parallel to Red in Chorus

" This poetry lights up with the metallic colours of electricity and a power that comes straight from the national grid."

Parallel To Red In Chorus is a sequence-poem-cum-journey between London and Isle of Skye, via Cambridge.

Sourced texts including photography manuals, song lyrics, road signs and chemistry are woven into the fabric of these poems to create a multi layered text of shifting surfaces, images and complex meanings.
